RUSTY EGAN

Rusty’s Biography

A passionate musician, he first made a name for himself in the late 1970s as a drummer for the British New Wave band ‘The Rich Kids’ (founded by former Sex Pistols Glen Matlock) with Midge Ure on lead guitar and vocals. Forming Visage with Midge Ure and fronted by Steve Strange, he introduced Midge to Ultravox, both bands enjoyed considerable success and fortune. During the recording and writing for Visage’s 1980 debut album ‘Visage,’ including the worldwide No 1 hit ‘Fade to Grey’, Rusty joined Scotland’s finest ‘The Skids’ as drummer, recording and touring the second top ten album ‘Days in Europa’ with Richard Jobson and Stuart Adamson [Big Country]. He began his prominent DJ career at the Blitz Club (1979-1981), one of the most influential nightclubs in London in the 1980s, where he introduced German electronica to the British club scene.
As the club grew in popularity, Rusty was quickly recognized as an innovator within London’s nightlife and was approached by club owners of the time with offers. He travelled to Paris, Berlin, Dusseldorf and New York for musical influences- meeting with Kraftwerk and Conny Plank. He found and produced French singer ” Ronny ”, and later with Steve Strange he opened at the 1800-capacity Camden Palace, (now KOKO) with performances from, among others, The Eurythmics, Wham, Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Madonna.
Paul Oakenfold, Mark Moore, and Jeremy Healey all cite Rusty as the pioneer of Electronic Dance Music in the UK. He has produced pioneering dance records for artists such as
Shock ” Nona Hendrix, Didier Rominelli, Burundi Black, Visage, and Rock Bands Spear of Destiny, and The Senate. In 2009 he re-mixed ” Messages” for Filthy Dukes - ” Mistake” for Moby,Fade to Grey ” for Visage and ” Dress to Digress “ for Boy Crisis and will released electronic master piece R.E.R.B 2010.

Rusty Egan & The Electronic Family Tree is the new project from Rusty with many exciting and big name collaborations planned for the future. With plans for a single release in the near future and an exceptionally exciting live offering towards the end of the year this really is something to look forward to.
